Sunday 18th January saw the Unsworth Under 15's make Unsworth history.  Since the club was founded over 35 years ago, Paul Morrison and Danny Jones's team are the first ever club to make it into a Lancashire Football Association cup final.

This Sunday they entertained Monton Amateurs in the semi-final.  Unsworth were quick out of the traps and found themselves two goals up in five minutes with well taken goals from Lemar Harrison and George Powell.

Unsworth then seemed to sit in their comfort zone with Monton coming into their own, and a chip from the centre forward from Monton saw Sam, the Unsworth goal-keeper, tip the ball over the cross-bar.  Lee Housley made darting runs down the right wing and caused Monton all sorts of problems.

Half time 2-0

After 20 minutes in the second half, Monton took a free kick from the right, the ball was crossed and Monton pulled one back with a fine header from an unmarked forward who headed passed the advancing keeper.  That seemed to put life back into the visitors, but with Monton breaking forward Unsworth always looked dangerous on the counter attack, and the deciding goal finally came with five minutes remaining when Lee Housley hit a looping shot from 20 yards out which gave the goal-keeper no chance.

Monton never gave in and bundled the ball over the line to make the final score 3-2 in the last minute.

The club would like to congratulate all the boys in the Under 15's Sunday team for reaching the Lancashire Football Association Under 15's County Cup Final.  The final is to be played at The County Ground, Thurston Road, Leyland on Monday 9th February 2009 kicking off at 7.00pm.  All support welcome and more information can be gained from ringing either Paul Morrison or Colin Macklin.
