The sun was shining at Drinkwater Park, we arrived early as parking is always limited.
We were all looking forward to our first game against Bury Amateurs as it is always a good match.
We kicked off and took the game straight to Bury, they defended well and after a few minutes Calum was brought down just outside the area, free kick. Austin stepped up and curled the ball in, the goalkeeper quickly picked up the ball, our boys were celebrating but to tell you the truth where we were stood we couldn't tell is it a goal isn't it. The ref signalled and 1-nil Unsworth. We suddenly took our foot of the pedal and then its 1-1, then 2-1 to Bury. Their goalkeeper received a yellow card for handling the ball out of the area. We equalised and scored a further 2 goals and at half-time 4-2 Unsworth.
Sean's team talk was full of praise and encouragement and he said go out and enjoy yourselves. Well I think they must have been dreaming as Bury came out all guns blazing and scored 2 goals in quick succession and it was 4-4. We pressed hard and the ball was going in when the opposition hand balled the ball and he was given a straight red. We were awarded a penalty and Elliot placed the ball on the spot and 5-4 to Unsworth.
A few minutes later and James picked up the ball from Ollie our keeper and weaved in and out on the left wing he took the ball into the box and we were all shouting pass but he'd decided it was a shame to come all this way and placed it in the corner of the goal, absolutely brilliant, three games in and definitely contender for goal of the season.
We scored again to make it 7-4 and then Bury took over possession and their midfielder kicked it from outside the area, good goal. It ended 7-5 to Unsworth with one sending off and 3 yellow cards.
Well the lads didn't disappoint, they put on a fantastic display and Bury came back a few nail biting times.
Well, watch this space as we are in the preliminary round of the cup this saturday and we've been drawn against Bury Amateurs.
