After being beaten by this team 7-3 earlier in the season, we really needed to change the way we played to avoid having so many goals scored against us. Plan A was to play without a ball but we quickly realised that that wasn't going to work so we needed to revert to Plan B - play well and score lots of goals! Rowan thought this was a great idea and quickly put this plan into action, thundering one past the goal keeper making the score 1-0 in 5 seconds.
Horwich seemed shellshocked by this but it didn't deter them, they launched a counter attack but Ted and Michel kept them at bay with some impressive defending. It was nail biting stuff as the ball was being played end to end, unfortunately for us, their attack caught our defenders unaware and managed to score making the score 1-1 This setback didn't put our lads of though and they came back fighting. Ted found Rowan with a great pass helping to create the second goal for the Dragons (2-1) As the game continued the enthusiasm didn't falter. The Dragons were determined and Sam got a break and keeping possession of the ball took a shot and made the score 3-1 This goal seemed to fire Horwich up and they managed to get one past Daniel, putting the score at 3-2 at half time.
Back on the pitch for the second half the Dragons looked like they meant busines, however Horwich meant bsuiness too and quickly scored to bring the score level. 3-3. The half time team talk obviously worked for Horwich as their shots were coming thick and fast. Alex showed some fancy footwork to help keep the score down and win the back for us. Horwich weren't letting us have our own way though and got 2 goals in quick sucession. With the score at 5-3, I had resigned myself to our first defeat of 2008. To prove me wrong, a shot which put even David Beckham to shame came from Rowan at the half way line hit the back of the net bringing the score to 5-4. This inspired the boys and after shots just of the mark from Ted, Josh and Jamie, Rowan took a shot which was just out of reach of the keeper and the score was 5-5. It looked like we might go one up when Jamie had possesion of the ball, but after a great shot the ball only managed to hit the side of the net - bad luck Jamie. The boys never gave up and I think both teams heaved a big sigh of relief when frank blew the whistle and the game ended up at 5-5. Ted was named the Man of the Match after putting in his best performance of the season.
Its Rossendale away next week so get some early nights this week, cos we want to be fit and refreshed for that game
