oldham rangers 2 v unsworth 3 A first ever cup q/final for the boys against oldham rangers who had beaten us in the home league fixture to inflict our only defeat of 2010 would mean a chance for revenge for the young brazillians from hillock. A flying start from the lads who took control of the game from the off and were creating a host of chances but failing to put them away until a corner swung in from "messi" was met on the volley by"the rifle" to put the boys ahead, soon after oldham equalised from a corner of there own against the run of play. more pressure from the lads but not a lot to show for it until who else but"twinkle toes" danced his way past a couple of oldham defenders and smashed his shot past the keeper to put the boys back in front. the introduction of "captain marvel" and "turn on a sixpence" gave the lads some fresh legs and insured the lads would go into half time in front. some strong words from the gaffer at half time about failing to kill teams off was a boost the boys needed and stirred the lads into action and were back creating a string of chances but still failing to convert gave our opponents the chance to stay in the game.it would prove costly soon after as oldham equalised against the run of play again to start the nail biting among the unsworth supporters.oldham were now starting to come into the game but a man of the match performance from the days stand in skipper "evil kneivel" tackling like a bull with "the kaiser" alongside him would take the tie into extra time. two 5 minute halves in extra time and unsworth again took control of the game with "joe terry morrison" thrown in to add sum much needed muscle into the middle of the park, the lads were now on top and who else but "ronaldo" stepped up to smash home his trademark heat seaker straight in the top bag to send the boys through to the semi finals. man of the match-"evil kneivel" , another outstanding performance!!! a well deserved win in a hard fought game, well done boys!!!! |
