Bridge Tavern 2 v 6 Unsworth
After slipping up against Bridge Tavern (4-4) in the home fixture when Unsworth missed a hatful of chances, we went to Close Park. 3 goals from Jamie, a goal from Danny and Ads and a 'Bullet' strike from Andy Jones was enough to see Bridge Tavern off. Unsworth 0 v 2 Huntley Mount This was an important game with Huntley being top and Unsworth in 4th spot, it was a must win game. The game could have gone either way, but Huntley took 2 of 4 chances to come out winners. Unsworth 6 v 1 Radcliffe Town After being held to a 1-1 draw before Christmas, Unsworth came out worthy winners with 2 goals from Jamie, and goals from Dean, Mike M and a season opener from captain Mike Tristram. Unsworth were awarded a free kick from 35 yards out and as "The Veteran" Morrison went to take the free kick, Danny moved him out of the way and said "you can't kick that far from this distance - you are too old" and smashed the ball home with a breathtaking free kick. Crown 0 v 1 Unsworth Crown, who are currently second, it was a must win game for Unsworth to close the gap on the top of the table. Unsworth grabbed all three points with a visciously swerved corner from Danny which flew into the back of the net. Credit where credit is due, Barton recently back from his European tour of Salou with Edge Hill Uni was outstanding to deny Crown with some quality keeping - I told you I would give you credit in the end!!!! Unsworth 7 v 3 Starling Next to be put to the sword were Starling on another night match. Lewis scored 2, Jamie 2, Lamar 1, Mike M 1 and Dean - who made sure the ball crossed the line with any part of his body..... Unsworth 3 v 1 AFC United AFC United, currently 1 point ahead of Unsworth, who were sitting in 3rd position were Unsworth's opponents on Sunday morning. Unsworth played some of the best football all season and thoroughly deserved the 3 points with 2 from Jamie (The Flying Salmon - hows your gut now lad!!!) and with a great performance from Matty who thoroughly deserved his goal for all his telling runs down the wing. Misses of the match go to Ads who missed 4 out of 4 chances - better luck next time Ads. Unsworth put a great performance from back to front with a solid game from Mike T, Danny, Keiran, Deano at the back, Moffat, Mike M, Brad and Ads in mid-field, and Jamie and Matty up front. The Veteran won his 10th cap of the season with a breathtaking 4 minutes - don't think he actually touched the ball!!! Lewis on his 18th birthday sustained a cricked neck for his troubles (thanks Paul...). Well done lads, we are only 2 points off second spot with 8 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat out of the last 10 games I am totally proud of all your effort this season. See you Sunday - Goshen against Whitefield Wanderers - 10.30 kick off (MOFFAT and ADS 10.00 meet). |
