After a week's break due to the bad weather last weekend, Unsworth (currently third) played away to fourth place Radcliffe Town with only 1 point between the teams. With Barton playing for the University team, and new keeper Andy Jones on call, it was left to Olli to step between the sticks once again, and with Tristram, Davies, Mather and Lewis "I dont want to play there" Saunders all playing on their usual top form, Radcliffe Town found it hard to break a stubborn defence down. It was Unsworth who totally dominated the first opening 35 minutes with Adam Jackson and Brad Higgins always looking a threat down the flanks with Jamie playing with new signing Matty Williams up front. It was Jamie who came close when he beat the offside trap just shooting wide of the far post. Radcliffe Town's keeper making great saves to keep Unsworth at bay, but football's a funny old game, and a free kick from a wide position saw Olli beaten when he slipped. That was the only shot from the home team in the first half. Half time 1-0. The second half was more of the same, and it was Brad Higgins who shot two chances wide of the mark. Mike Mellouish and Craig Moffatt kept pressing forward from midfield. Unsworth finally unlocked a stubborn (and very tall - average height 6'5" defence) when Lewis Saunders popped up on the right to put a looping cross on the "not so tall - 5'4" Mike Mellouish to head home a powerful header to make it 1-1. This seemed to spring Radcliffe Town into life, having two good chances, but both missing the target. Higgins and Macklin broke the offside trap only to see Jamie's shot beat the keeper but go wide of the mark. Matty Williams made way for the ever eager Paul Morrison (aka The Mouth). The Gaffa asked was he ready - only to reply let me finish off my fag first. Paul made a 50 yard spurt only for Brad not to put him in. His watching son, Jack, said "If he'd have scored I would NEVER have heard the end of it". Final score 1-1 No game next weekend due to the Unsworth Night Out. Sunday 28th November away fixture at Close Park to Bridge Tavern. |
