Due to players on holiday, injuries, people forgetting to put the alarm on (Lewis S), and Christmas parties (Keiran sickbag Davies), Unsworth turned up with a bare 12 on Sunday against fourth in the division Rose & Crown.

The morning started brightly with Unsworth dominating the first 15 minutes.  Then against the run of play, and a blatant off side blunder by the referee - obviously couldn't see through his Reacterlight glasses!!! Rose & Crown took the lead.  "One sock" Barton pulled off two fantastic trademark saves before Rose & Crown put the ball in the net again, only to have the goal disallowed for pushing on Barton.

Unsworth came close when Jamie Macklin put his shot wide, and seconds later was brought down in the box, only to be denied a spot kick.  Lewis Macklin latched onto a through-ball from Danny Mather to make no mistake with his 'KNEE' - Head the damn ball next time Lewis!!!!

Half time score 1-1

Unsworth came out in the second half all guns blazing with Danny Smith pulling the strings in mid-field with Mike Mellouish.  Mike Tristram played at centre-half alongside Keiran, and Mr. Utility Player Lee Bushell did a job for the club at left-back with Danny Mather playing his normal game at right back.

Josh Kedie came on for the second half and made some good runs down the left.  Mitchell was switched from the left late into the second half to play in his usual position, up front with Jamie.

With the game still at 1-1, Unsworth had two great one on one chances with the keeper but the keeper denied both.  Rose & Crown were always dangerous on the break and got the winning goal with 20 minutes to go.

Unsworth still had two golden chances, but were blasted over the bar.  From a corner Matt Barton came up and nearly grabbed the equalizer with the last kick of the game.

Colin cannot fault the lads for their effort with so many players playing out of position, and it was a great game to watch for the neutrals.

We have now dropped to third in the league but still have 2 games in hand on those above.  The game against Staff of Life (second at the moment) is another big game, so lets have our heads on the game and not in the nightclubs!!!!!

Unsworth v Staff of Life - 20th December 2009.  Be at Hillock at 9.45am weather permitting.
